‘Encouraging thought…’ is not about meeting expectations or requirements, nor is it about compliance. It is about encouraging a line of thinking that promotes positive mental health in the workplace, embraces inclusion, and derives – for the company – the full benefits of being an inclusive employer.
What kind of ‘benefits’ are we talking about?
There are a number of ‘documented’ benefits that a company, and its people, experience when the workplace is psychologically healthy and safe. These include lower absenteeism, higher productivity, reduced workplace accidents, higher employee engagement, increased employee loyalty, a stronger connection to the community, and increased sales!
What do I need to do to help create a positive workplace?
There are things that a company can “do” to promote Mental Wellness; however, the single most important thing they can do is to understand the facts around Mental Wellness and the benefits it can provide to all the employees – and the company. Creating a positive workplace is not about “compliance” as much as it is about courtesy, respect, and common sense.
Are there other resources available if we want to do more than just “think about” positive Mental Health in our Workplace?
There are a multitude of both informational and clinical resources that are designed to provide support and assistance in regard to all aspects of creating a psychologically heathy and safe workplace, being truly inclusive, preventing mental heath issues, and dealing with real challenges if they occur. But remember, the first step is positive and preventive thinking – creating a safe, positive culture in the workplace.
What can I expect to ‘take away’?
The primary goal of the Encouraging thought on Mental Health in the Workplace is to leave participants with a higher level of comfort and a higher level of confidence in understanding Mental Health in the Workplace; and in choosing to create and maintain psychologically healthier and safer workplaces by understanding options and solutions to workplace challenges should they occur.
